Dishonesty and violence – the GMC changes it’s guidance for decision makers!

GMC changes to triaging guidance in relation to allegations of dishonesty and violence.

Whilst these changes were implemented a couple of weeks ago, they are nonetheless interesting and likely to be significance in terms of reducing the number of cases requiring full investigation.

In summary, both the threshold guidance and guidance for decision makers have been updated so that there is now wider discretion to close those cases involving low level violence or dishonesty where the conduct is minor, occurred outside of professional practice and has been investigated by the police or by another body such as the employer.
